The Bonkowski Family
My mother and father, some time around 1935. They were married in
1936. The photo was taken at 43rd and Honore Street. Dad looked
like a pretty dapper guy. Considering this was in the middle of the
Great Depression, his job at Wilson lard refinery must have been
rewarding. During Prohibition, he supplemented his income with some
alcohol deliveries for the local bootleggers.
My mother was one of 8 children. One (Aunt Vick)
is missing from the photo. As the oldest, she had probably left
the farm by now and was
working in the Stock Yards in Chicago
